Back story:
Jane grew up in Hart's Mill with Kate Johnson. Their village was destroyed by Raiders, and together they fled with only the things they could readily grab and carry. They take refuge within the Church of the Fonz, and are now on a mission to pay back The Church for their kindness.

Personality:
Jane is a generally a good person. She does what she can for those she keeps close, but upon first meeting she is definitely cautious. She makes it clear, however, that anyone who willingly trusts someone so easily is an idiot. Her greatest flaw is her willingness to protect her friends even if it hurts her in the process. She generally tries to keep everyone's spirits up, while still being realistic, and sometimes cynical, in the process. She is a survivor, but she also tends to self sacrifice, especially when it comes to her childhood friend, Kate. Occasionally, Jane will speak out before thinking, and while she has been lucky so far, she knows one day it might get her into a lot of trouble. Worse, she fears it will get her group into a lot of trouble. On the outside, Jane sometimes comes off as overly callous, but knows that if she didn't, it could be a lot more dangerous for herself just as a female. While she is very straightforward and abrasive, she is kind and strives only to help and protect. That is not to say she won't kill if she has to, and if the victim deserves it, she is very capable of feeling no remorse for them. Jane has two motivations in life: Protecting Kate and making the world a better place. Even if that means ridding the world of the evils the old fashioned way; killing.

Education:
While growing up she took to reading very quickly, and has some helpful knowledge, as well as the ability to learn on the go. She can read well, has pretty average+ intelligence, but it is her wit and perception that helps her the most. She deciphers quickly, and formulates plans in her head. She has a good to high understanding of technology, medicine, and science. With these abilities, it allows her to survive in this world, which leads to scavenging and sneaking around so as to not attract enemies, whoever they may be. If time permits, she tries to pass on her knowledge.

Relationships:
In this world, Jane does not expect to make many friendly acquaintances, but she does have a few.
Kate Johnson: Jane and Kate are childhood friends. If you can call what they had a childhood. They lived in the same village, and got along pretty well. When they weren't busy working to keep the village up they could often be seen spending their time off together, trying to appreciate some sort of beauty that this world might have to offer. Whether or not Kate knows it, Jane has been interested in her for a long time, though, Jane fears it will break their bond if she tries to act upon it. Broken trust is not something that is conducive to staying alive. Instead, she turns to others within established villages they pass through, should the urge arise, however, it has been a while since that has happened. Jane isn't even sure if Kate is capable of trusting someone that much given the horror's of her past. As cynical as Jane is, she sometimes reads into the looks she gets from Kate after coming back from another man or woman's domicile, just for the false hope. Everyone needs to hope for something.
Dahvin: Dahvin and Art stumbled into Jane's life while she was a refugee at the Church of the Fonz. Jane immediately was wary, of course, but after they talked for a bit of time about where they came from and what they were looking for, for some reason, she felt she could really trust them. Together they embark on a journey to repay the Church for their hospitality.

Family and the Past in Hart's Mill:
Jane and her family lived near the edge of Hart's Mill opposite the direction where all the raids and kidnapping took place. She lived there for 15 years with her parents and two older brothers. Their parents were both very educated, and taught them to read and write, as well as many other things. Wanting to use their skills outside of the village, both of her brothers left when they were of age to become mercenaries, when Jane was about 9 and would return every few months with supplies of some sort.
One night Jane's mother, Lily, discovered that the pork they still had was getting very old, but decided to try to cook it up anyway to try to make the food last longer. Jane and her mother made a stew of sorts, and she and her parents ate dinner. Jane knew the meat probably wasn't the best to eat, but figured they had no choice. The next day Jane found her parents still in bed, vomiting (and more) a lot. There wasn't enough medicine nor clean water to keep them hydrated, and they succumbed to the illness pretty quickly. To this day, Jane doesn't know why she didn't get sick. She was 13.
When her brothers returned weeks later, they were devastated, but Jane insisted that they continue with their journeys while she stayed behind to take care of their home, and help out around the village. Just so they always had a place to go. Jane helped someone in the village everyday, and because of it, learned many things. She cared for live stock, cleaned and treated weapons, salvaged items out of normally discarded things, and even helped take care of the other villagers when they were sick. And mechanical repair, too!
When she wasn't working, she was learning. Improving her reading, writing, science, medicine, and other critical thinking. She was playing with pieces of tech trying to make them work or keep them working. She read books about medicine and science, and even found stories of make believe to read. She trained everyday, too. Strengthening her body, to prepare for more raids that would surely come. She became very proficient in close combat and melee fighting, even sparring and surprising her brothers with each return. Because of her smaller size, she kind of felt like she was a secret weapon, and even considered leaving with them each time they came home. She wasn't ever sure if she could leave Kate behind, but she did consider it.
It was nearing mid season when Jane realized that her brothers had not returned since the last, and began to worry, but was hopeful that they were fine. She believed she was just anxious because she was excited to show them some of her new skills. And that's when the Raid happened. Like always, the alarm echoed in the distance and woke her from her sleep. She had left another's villager's home late the evening before and they insisted she borrow a horse, believing the quick trip to her home on the outskirts would make it a little safer for Jane. She was thankful that she had accepted, and quickly saddled the horse riding toward the inner village with a long dagger and spiked club. As quick as she was, she was still too late. Homes were burning, and many raiders were already on their way out of the village. That didn't stop her from catching three of them and ending their lives. It made her feel better inside. It was a long night after that, as many scattered to put out what flames they could, while others tried to save what was left inside, if the raiders had left anything.
The sun was high in the sky when she finally made it to Kate's home. What was left of it, anyway. Jane rummaged through the ruins, that were still partially warm from fiery destruction, looking for anything that resembled a human body. Only slightly relieved to find none, she asked around town looking for her, she soon found out that Kate and her family had been dragged away, along with two other families. Jane rode home, and prepared to ride out that moment, but something in her told her to rethink this.

Currently: Jane's moment to think was the right choice, later that night Kate returned to the village bloody, bruised, scared, and different. It had only been a few days, but this was a different Kate. No longer the same person, Jane knew Kate had nothing left in Hart;s Mill and together they fled the village running from Raiders, Horsemen, and other vagrants. With luck, stumbled upon the Church of the Fonz where they found refuge from the world. Even here Jane knew Kate would never feel safe, but believed it was the best she could do for her for now. All Jane wants is for Kate to feel safe in some sense. Now the duo have joined up with Art and Dahvin and are looking for parts to build a defense system.

Travels: Her favorite moment is that slow motion feeling when someone's face is being bashed in, and hopes to one day show Mercury Steel what that feels like. Before getting to the Church, Jane crossed paths with Mercury Steele. A vile man with silver eyes. Not that they had exuberant amount of time to get to know one another, but Jane knew he was not good inside. From what she can deduce she is lucky to have survived, especially while protecting Kate at the same time. While they had to flee from this horrible man the first time, Jane has taken many precautions that should they ever meet again, she will be ready. Mercury is one of those evils that need to leave this world.
